Director Spiros Evanggelatos has been directing ancient Greek plays for almost 40 years, so it’s no wonder that this production of Sophocles’ Oedipus Tyrannus was the blockbuster hit of the renouned  Epidaurus Festival.  Not only is the play itself a fantastic story with lots of twists and turns, but it also features an actor who is reported to be the youngest ever Oedipus under Evanggelatos’ direction.

In his search for Laius’ murderer, whose presence – according to the Delphic Oracle – has polluted Thebes and caused the catastrophic plague, King Oedipus discovers the thread connecting his life with the cursed House of the Labdacides.

Patricide and incestuous, father and brother to his children and husband to his mother, he blinds himself as punishment for the hubris he has unwittingly committed and yet another chance to see the same performance you missed at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus:
